View Full Version : Question on MANUKA HONEY??

I bought Manuka honey to try on my boy Conker, he's had an issue on the inside upper leg close to body for months, been on antibiotics noting works.
He's in no pain and the blister looking thing hasn't grown.
He's fat and he will be 12 so even if it were a cyst or something surgery is out of the question.
Currently using cortisone cream but I'd love to give this honey a try, I've seen others use it with success.
My question is if he licks it is it harmful🤷
Since it's honey I'm guessing it's ok then again I don't want to encourage him to lick. Good news because of his girth 🙄 I doubt he'd be able to reach it anyway.

Anyone ever use it, did it help/work?
Thanks in advance.
Hope y'all are having a great day👍

I am pretty addicted to the vet and zoo shows on Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild, and I have seen vets at some of the most cutting edge vet facilities use manuka honey on wounds. All honey has antiseptic properties but manuka has the highest concentration, plus I imagine the sugar acts to draw moisture out of the wound. It is clearly the real deal of they wouldn't be using it. It can be safely eaten, though I understand it isn't very tasty.

Thank you CM I've already put it on my leg that I have had for very long a dark spot crusty, I'm sure a skin doc would love to cut it off but not going that route again just going to see how this stuff works🤷
What I got was from New Zealand, time will tell.
I'll be so happy if it helps my boy 🙏

Can you get a photo of the, "blister looking thing" on your boy?

This is of several weeks ago, phone makes it look red when it's pink. 🤷
Plus sorry not that clear, he's a mover and a shaker :grin3:grin3
And his willy got in the pic 🤭🙄

I'm not an expert on squirrels, but I have used Manuka honey for years for wound healing and keep a bottle of it on my medicine shelf for use on my dogs and on hubby & myself. It's the first thing I reach for anything involving broken skin. I learned about it after my greyhound was attacked by loose dogs and had both deep and superficial wounds. Since then, I've used it on everything from draining wounds to toe amputation site with great results every time. There's a reason I reach for it first. Next to laser therapy, I believe it's the best for healing. Of course, the goal is for the honey to not be licked off, but that can be difficult to prevent. I've never seen any type of reaction from my dogs when they've managed to do that; of course I realize we're talking about a ginormous size difference, but you'd be using a lot less honey.

Having said that, I've only ever used it on open wounds, not on a cyst or anything closed. Is Conker's wound open? If it were me, I absolutely would give it a try.

Thank you so much👍
His blister thing ( for lack of a better word) is not open. I'm going to use it and I'll let you know what happens🤗

Have you seen him scratch or over groom the area?

How old is he?

Has your squirrel vet checked it out?

No he doesn't scratch in the area it's at.
I've worked with my vet but haven't taken him in as we both decided he's too old and fat🤦
