I'm still cage shopping. Been looking for a year for my foxer's next cage. Mine is crap and I've had to put more than 50 washers and nuts/bolts on all of the places he has bent the bars or broken them completely.

For those of you with Critter Nation cages, how do you work around the fact that the pan sits in the bottom of the cage with no grill over it? The pans are plastic so Georgie would chew that up in a heartbeat. Plus I don't want him rooting around for dropped food in his own waste. It just doesn't seem very sanitary.

I installed stainless steel pans made for the CN cages. Chew proof and easy to clean. Regular cage cleanings with squirrels are a must. They are clean but they are absolute messy pigs about their cages. Get the full stainless steel (more expensive but no pee rust issues).

I clean his cage daily but still dont like the idea of him walking around in his pee and poop between cleanings. He likes to play in the bottom of the cage sometimes.

I solved that problem by cutting two small squared pieces of wood the width of the cage. I hot glued them to the underside of the cage creating a place for the solid plastic bottom to sit on. This way the grate on the bottom of the cage isn’t covered. I highly recommend the metal half shelves for inside the cage….mine are chewed even though I made fleece covers for them. :hissyfit.

You can see in the pics all the debris filters down under the bottom of the cage and is caught in the tray.
