Hello! We have a wild adult Eastern Grey who has visited for the last year. He periodically exhibits a limp with his left front paw. During his last visit, we noticed that one of the toes on his left front paw is very swollen and red. We’ve never noticed this before, even when he was limping.
Is there anything we can do to help him? We feed him, and he’s comfortable with us getting very close.

Bump because our squirrel still has a swollen toe and is limping.

Most of these common paw/finger injuries will heal up on their own given time. If you can provide clean water (changed out daily) and some extra treats, that will help him to stay strong and help his immune system. Two options for treatment include infant motrin for pain/swelling and it is a good idea to have an antibiotic pill or two on hand (cipro, clavamox, doxycycline etc) just in case additional treatment is needed. We can provide exact dosing directions if needed but I would start but giving him water and extra treats and seeing if this clears up in a week or two. If this gets worse or does not clear up on its own, let us know.
