My female squirrel has a swollen & irritated anus. She gets fussy when it's touched or when you try to look at it. It looks like there is some kind of pussy discharge. She seems really uncomfortable. What can I do to help her!!!! I feel terrible.

Has she been eating normally?
Has she been moving her bowels normally? If she has what is it's consistency?
I would recommend applying a light coat of an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin around her anus.
Reducing the inflammation will improve her discomfort.

Kaitiejane9 I just read your previous forums....
6/8 - Given ab's for suspected pneumonia.
> Were you giving a probiotic the recommended 2 hours before or 2 hours after administering Ab's?
Ab's can be hard on their stomachs and cause loose stool leaning to diarrhea. Allowing an extra probiotic helps to balance that.
6/16 - 5 week-ish -Switched to FV (2nd day) - green stool.
What formula did you switch off from? - why did you make the switch - Which FV are you feeding? -
Did you transition from one to the other or just started on the FV?
An imbalance of the normal gut flora is linked to gastrointestinal conditions, this can result from a dietary change that increases
intake of protein, sugar, or food additives.
6/18 - Irritated anus -
This baby is unable to process what it is being fed. Passing of the stomach acid is what is irritating/ burning the anus.
I would suggest administering pepto bismol or kayopectate to help stable the gut, it will help protect the stomach and lower part of
food pipe from stomach acid.
Hydration is extreamly important, offering extra hydration in-between feedings is recommended.
Also... What is the current weight of baby? Are you feeding between 5-7% of weight? How often are you feeding?
Questions need answers. We know what's happening, in order to fix, we need to learn what's broke....

Yes, she was getting probioticas.
I switched her from some basic puppy replacement formula from my local feed store. I made the switch because I read that FV is the best you can give them. I got the one that is ment for 5+ weeks. I just switched I believe. I started her on homemade hydration mixture of warm water, sugar and salt. She's lost some weight so now she's about 52 grams. I've been doing the hydration between each feeding. Since I've been doing the hydration her stool isn't green anymore. It's now a dark yellowish.
