We have a baby A with an swollen penis - I cannot post the video here but it is extremely swollen. Baby A is 5 weeks old, just opened his eyes, and he has a sibling (baby B) as well as another one (baby C) same age with him. The lady has separated baby C from A and B, believing that C is the one suckling on A. I advised her to soak the blackened tip with a warm compress and keep it damp until the scab can be very gently removed.

Will we need ABs for possible infection? if so then which ones?
What about the pain?

Beyond what I suggested, what should I advise her to do? Would the sugar coating help at all in such a case?

I must say it is possible these babies are not drinking enough - finder is a 1st timer with squees - and they put up a lot of fuss apparently while they feed.

Yes, the sugar will pull the edema that is causing the swelling out. The idea is to basically make a solid sugar cast for the penis. Just barely dampen the penis with water and pour some table sugar over it. Let it sit for a minute and then gently blow away the excess sugar. To check on the progress, soak the sugar off and after you get a look, if it is still swollen, put more sugar on it and make a new cast. It doesn't take minutes to work, it takes hours.

For pain I would do the infant ibuprophen - it is inflamed and ibuprophen is an anti-inflammatory. If you don't have a weight/dose chart for it, let us know the weight of the baby and someone will give it to you.

Obviously she needs to address the feeding issues - that will definitely get them sucking. She also needs to make certain he isn't doing it to himself.

Thank you C M :)
Definitely yes on the feeding.
We have some medicinal honey here - vet gave that to me for another squee, another kind of wound, but it does wonders. Wouold that be advisable in such a case, instead of the sugar coating? It might stick better ... maybe (?)

Well, if they get the water/sugar ratio right, it will form an actual cast - The sugar dissolves slightly and then dries. The honey has antibacterial properties and is great for wounds - this is JUST to pull edema out. I would use the sugar just to keep from turning the baby into a sticky mess, but if it stayed put it would probably work.

Could somebody please PM me the dosage for the Pediatric Ibuprofen (40mg/ml) for an 85 gr baby?
