I talked to Jay and the lady. I'm now on my way to pick them up, raise them, and do a soft release once they are ready.

I'm not at home where I have stashed my formula, and don't want to add more driving time by driving back home first to pick up my formula, so I will have to find some in a local pet store tomorrow for the ride back home (7 hours). What formula would be my best bet?

The powdered Esbilac formula is the only thing you can buy on the shelf that is even barely suitable for a squirrel.

If you buy the Esbilac, you might consider using 1/2 Esbilac and 1/2 Fox Valley 20/50 going forward... that was always my preferred formula until about 18 months ago (now I am using Zoologic 33/40 instead of Esbilac).

You could make due with the homemade goats formula for a day or two also.

We need SnickerBar and Milo'sMom here. Rabbits have very specific needs. . . .

I just pulled over and checked the photo on my laptop. Looks indeed off. Tail too short and ears too big.

I sent a text to the lady and asked for a new photo without blanket.

Looks like they went to bed, they are older folks.

I can't release rabbits where I live, they will be an appetizer within hours.

Ruh roh. Any chance of taking them since you're already part way there just to save them and figure out the where of release later? :dono

Chirps can you use your rabbit contacts and see if they are able to rescue?

Milo's Mom is up here in PA. Not sure where Snicker Bar is but she's down South. I wasn't suggesting them for rescue but rather for advice to walk McCarthy through it. :hidechair

No worries I'll get them to take them to the wildlife center.

Thanks for helping show me I need to inspect the dern pictures more better.

Sorry Mccarthy but you are the man.

Had a thought. If this lady thought they were squirrels, is there a chance they don't need rescuing? Where did she find them? Maybe they were in a nest but she didn't recognize it for what it was? Maybe if she puts them back all will be okay? I guess there's no way to talk to her until morning though. :Phone

Meanwhile McCarthy continues on his mission . . . :thankyou

:help

She says she knows where the nest is. She is going to put the dogs and cats up and try to reunite with mom in a few hrs when it warms up. Watch and wait for a time, if nothing then she will take to the wildlife center

I told her too keep them warm and hydrated in the mean time ECT

I am going to sub to a rabbit forum and hopefully find a network of rehabbers for them for future

I was on my phone yesterday, texting with Jay and this lady all night long, and wasn't in the mood to write a long message here, on that damn cell phone keyboard. I'm on a long weekend trip again.

As I explained to Jay and the lady last night, I can't release any rabbits in my neighborhood. At times I have gators in the lake right in my backyard. That lake starts 20 feet from my patio. Florida snapping turtles the size of car tire as well. While we have some squirrels around that can go up in our trees, we don't have any bushes for rabbits to hide in. Hence why we don't have any rabbits in our area at all. I have never seen one around my neck of the woods either.

I also don't like being committed to take on rabbits under the assumption that I will find somebody else to take care of them down the road. That assumption can go sideways fast, and in the end I may end up having to keep them long-term, and that ain't gonna happen with my HOA and any outdoor cages. Somebody will find out / see it and complain.

Now if those would have been squirrels, and all 3 of them would become NRs, I would have kept them inside my house. But those rabbits will need cages outside the house with a much larger footprint since they don't climb and make use of tall cages.

PS: she sent another photo, and yes they are rabbits. Thanks for pointing this out Chirps. I couldn't see the details on my small cell phone display.

I had not looked very well at the picture at all... bunnies are tough to rehab without experience. They don't get fed as often or require nearly the number of weeks, but they are heart breakers in terms of keeping them alive and thriving. If they are not reunited, hopefully they will be placed in the care of experienced bunny folks.

She is waiting on a local rescue to respond
The bigger rescue is at capacity

Should she try and feed them goatsmilk maybe 2 or three grams until they get placed?

She is keeping them warm and hydrated with water thus far.

Thanks
