Hi there!
I have a 6-7 week old baby that followed me around a parking lot. Looked for the Mom/tree near by but nothing. I read that an adolescent squirrel will follow a human if it lost its mom, so I picked it up and took it home on Friday. He has had no problem eating, doesn't seem dehydrated anymore. took 2 days for him to FINALLY poop and it was 2 black pellets and then some orangish next to it (not solid). I know that is from the formula (he is on Esbilac puppy milk with probiotics). But now I am concerned he has diarrhea. This last feeding I tried feeding sugar water but he will not drink it, he only wants the milk. I have Fox Valley 20/50 with healthy block coming in tomorrow. Not sure if I should just give him milk and then in between feedings try applejuice? or just see keep giving him milk to see what his poop is again? He is not on full strength milk yet, just 1 part powder 3 parts water. I have been slowly increasing it.

Personally with a 6+ week old I would transition to full strength within a couple days.
Sugar water and apple juice will make the diarrhea worse... those are usually used with babies suffering from constipation. Are you using the sugar water / apple juice because he is dehydrated?

Is your Esbilac powdered or liquid?

Since he didn't poop for 2 days, I assumed possible dehydration still, but when I do the pinch test, I don't think he is dehydrated. I will transition him to full strength formula and NOT use any applejuice/water mix or sugarwater mix in between feedings.
I will see how his poop is the next couple of days. Hopefully tomorrow my Fox Valley formula will come in. Do you know how to transfer them to that mix, gradually?

When your FV arrives mix some according to directions….1 part powder to 2 parts hot water in container #1. Mix your Esbilac 1 part powder to 2 parts hot water in container #2. Then when it’s feeding time in container #3 mix 75% of your mixed Esbilac with 25% of your mixed FV. Feed this for several feedings. Then when you remix In container #3 mix 50% mixed Esbilac with 50% mixed FV and feed this for several feedings. When you remix in container #3 mix 25% mixed Esbilac with 75% mixed FV and feed for several feedings. After that you will be on 100% FV. Your transition should be slow over several days.
If at any point you notice an intolerance then go back to the percentage mixture that was tolerated. Fox Valley formula seems to be richer and sticks with them longer.
