I just learned from Facebook that stosh, our long time member in Costa Rica, had a bad car accident this past Thursday. They are currently trying to get him to San Jose hospital which is 5 hours away from his home, where an MRI and specialists can assess and treat him. He has two fractured vertebrae in his neck, which can cause paralysis if the utmost care is not taken.
Pray that the fractures are minimal so that surgery will not be needed. Poor stosh, and poor Rosie!

I want to know if Rosie has transportation. Also, why can't an ambulance take him to the right hospital?

Stosh has posted on FB. He is in pain but it is off and on. No appetite. He's been on a gurney for 4 days because there is no bed. Here is what he said
Quick update from the patient... I'm doing okay I've been on a gurney in the whole way for 4 days no room no hospital room that is the food looks good but I've had no appetite so since Thursday morning when I ate breakfast at home I probably eat any equivalent of a 12 oz cup of beans and rice in 3 days I just have no appetite. I'm okay occasional Sharp twinges of pain in my right shoulder if they only last about 5 or 6 minutes and although they are brutal I haven't had any pain meds since the night I got here I try to avoid that if I can because the pain always intense it is short-lived. I may not reply here again for a couple of days still issues with getting power to my phone but I do appreciate all the concern and once the hospital makes the decision about if I am going to go to San Jose which is 4 hours in the back of an ambulance I will let everyone know through Rosie she will keep you posted and please keep her in your prayers too.

Hey Stosh, I hope you have an opportunity to read this. I wanted you to know I’m thinking about you and Rosie and I know what you’re going through.
The end of August of last year my husband fell 15 feet out of an oak tree while getting down a bee filled nest box. He hit a branch, hit the top of the release cage and landed on his back on the pavers below. He suffered a lateral fracture to his C1 vertebrae, 2 compression fractures in his middle back, a hairline skull fracture and shattered his right wrist. He spent 3 days in the hospital, had surgery and a plate put in his wrist and came home with instructions to wear a neck brace 24/7 and a back brace while in an upright position…..but he was alive and he could walk. Aside from the 6 weeks of wearing the braces he has made a full recovery, and for that we feel incredibly blessed and lucky.
The fact that you are alive means you have statistically defied the odds of having a broken neck and are considered one of the lucky ones. I just wanted you to know that my heart goes out to you and Rosie. My husband is 66 years old and mending isn’t as easy as when you’re young, but it does still happen and I have all the faith in the world that it’ll happen for you, too. :grouphug
