Hi all. So Petunia was at it again. (My 3 year old para love)In protest of me leaving her....she began to chew at her leg. If it is not to the bone it is pretty close. Last year I left her for 2 weeks and she chewed off 1/3 of her tail, now this time her leg. Uuuugh. So here are the questions I have. What antibiotic should I start her on? How often should I betadyne rinse her, and is there anything I could use to STOP her from continuing to chew? I have tried white vinegar...she liked it. I am attempting to upload photos. Thank you in advance.

Do not put white vinegar any where near that wound. It will burn like crazy.
Is this squirrel on Gabapentin? If so, how much, how often?
Dilute the betadine 1/4tsp to 1/4 cup tepid water and wash it down at least 3 times a day.
Do you have a vet that will see her?

Thanks Mel for the reply
So I do not have a vet, I am new to Co. She is not on any meds. I have tried gabapentin in the past and am willing to give it another try.
My biggest concern is this becoming infected. Also how to get her to stop. She is paralyzed so she feels nothing as she is just chewing away.

I will gladly send you some Gabapentin if someone will dose it for you. The gabapentin I have are 600mg tablets. If someone can tell me how many to send and you give me your address in a private message I’ll send them out.
Clindamycin is a good drug for skin infections. I’m sure there are others and I’ll defer to other folks that might have a recommendation. I have Clavamox and Baytril I can send as well if others feel either of those are a good choice.
Co is a tough state. Let me look into this.
In the meantime you have to come up with a sock or some type of protection so she can’t continue to reach her leg to chew. I saw that someone made an e-collar out of a slice of foam noodle float like what’s used in a pool. It can be trimmed to whatever size is needed. They also sell foam that is used to wrap around pipes at big box hardware stores.

After you treat the leg wrap it with gauze and that stretchy wrap you can get at stores. I think it’s called Coban wrap.

Terrific ideas Mel! You are so kind! I actually have a little medicine cabinet for her, fully stocked. I will weigh her and hopefully someone can dose for me. Thank you so much for the great advice and kind offer! Just good people on this forum!!💜🐿☮️
