Hello everyone - I hope the video uploaded okay. This squirrel is in a very bad shape and is clearly in pain. He has a large open wound in his leg. I don't know whether or not his leg is broken, but he certainly can't use it.
I've been feeding him and giving him water for 5 days hoping he would get better but he is not improving. Today I noticed that he is losing fur on the injured leg. I know that the stress of being trapped can kill him so don't want to take him to a rehabber unless he has a good chance of survival. Please let me know what you think. Should I just leave him alone?
I'm thinking of putting antibiotic in his food but I don't know the dosage and what antibiotic. Please help.
Thank you so much.

Hair loss around a wound is usually a sign of infection, so antibiotics would be great.

Which antibiotics do you have (can you get)? Some that would be a good choice would include Bactrim (TMP/SMZ), Clavamox, Clindamycin and Doxycycline. List whatever you might have access to and someone will advise if it might be effective. You can ask family, friends and neighbors... a single pill or two is all you will need for a full course of treatment.

Once we know the medication options we will assist with dosing instructions...

THANK YOU! I have AMOX-CLAV (generic for Augmentin) - I'm assuming it's the same as Clavamox. Is it?
I also have Ciprofloxacin HCL 500mg and Cephalexin 500mg

Amox-Clav is Augmentin, which is a good choice IMO.

Do you know the strength of the tablet? If not, post a picture of the lettering / numbering on tablet.

Thank you. The strength of my AMOX-CLAV tablet is 875-125 mg

Bump.

Someone will have to estimate the weight of the squirrel to provide proper dosing. If the meds are mixed at a high enough strength it will only amount to a couple of drops of medication per dose. If you see him regularly you can mix the meds into a little almond butter, peanut butter or Nutella and put it in the grooves of a pecan for feeding.

Hello NYC, from up in the Bronx. :wave123 Our regional grey squirrels weigh about 1 pound (454g) as adults, so I would use that to figure the dose for your poor guy.
