View Full Version : I’m at a loss for veggies

I really don’t know what to do.

My baby - about 12 weeks old - doesn’t like ANY veggies that I give her. Well, let me clarify. She’ll eat most new offerings the first time, but refuses them any time after that. First kale? Devoured. Second, third, etc.? Ignored.

Same with broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, squash, cress, cabbage, etc. — ate it the first time, but never would again.

Have had better luck with fruits (apples, blueberries, mango) BUT I read that they should only be offered very sparingly, and so I only give one thumbnail-sized bite in the evening.

She is still on FV 20/50 twice a day and Henry’s Healthy Blocks three times a day, all of which she eats fine.

(We aren’t doing nuts yet.)

I’m just really worried about this pickiness and how to get her the nutrients she needs if she won’t eat these veggies!

Help!

It sounds like you have a squirrel on your hands. :grin2
What you described is pretty typical. They love it today, they hate it tomorrow.

If she is still taking formula and eating HHB she is getting all the nutrients she needs. When she weans herself, it’s possible the veggies might be more appealing. You can try sugar snap peas, butternut squash, acorn squash and avocado. They all like fruit but we do limit it because of the sugar and their sweet tooth. They would definitely reject veggies over fruit.

Hang in there. They change like the weather…. from one day to the next. :grin2

I agree with HRT4SQRLS, she's doing ok. BRAVO to you for not giving her nuts yet :bowdown-- please don't! A baby who is refusing veggies now is never going to try them once she gets the taste of a nut. I give almonds only from about 2 weeks before my squirrels go into the pre-release pen, then I give them hard shell nuts while in the pen and as supplements after release so they can bury for the winter. Giving nuts while still indoors encourages a host of bad behaviors and there's no real reason to do it, especially when they are still taking formula.
