First time daddy here. Lady Templeton is now somewhere around 7-8 weeks old, we believe. We’ve had her since Hurricane Ida - about 6 weeks ago… She weighed (yesterday) 199.7g

We’ve transitioned her housing as she’s grown - first an aquarium with heating pad, then added a cage topper that has a ramp downstairs (posting photo from internet and video from last week below), and she will be moving into a Critter Nation two-story cage which arrives in just three days. So far the setup has been great (she seems to enjoy it, anyway) but this morning her toe got caught in the spot where the ramp connects upstairs!

I know I caught it quickly because it happened in the short moment between waking up (when she happily said ‘good morning’ as usual) and me preparing her breakfast — just a matter of a couple of minutes — I heard her start to cry which she *never* does, so I poked my head around the corner and saw her struggling, but I worry that I didn’t catch it quickly enough.

The long toe on a front paw was caught and I was able to swiftly get her out, but the front pad of the toe is now red and swollen and it had a tiny bit of bleeding (nothing profuse, but still making me cry). She’s holding her paw up to her chest, but still climbing around. She also still ate her breakfast formula and started eating her fresh Picky Block.

I have not been able to get a photo of the toe but will keep trying. I am just looking for advice on what I should do!

Thank you!!!

I got a picture of the toe - she isn’t using it.

You could give her infant ibuprofen for inflammation and pain. Let me know if you want to do that and I will dose for you. Time will telll what damaged occurred. Usually when they catch a toe and lose the nail, the bleeding is profound.

Hey Dad

Your new cage looks a little top heavy with a squirrel jumping around up there. You might need to modify a bit. The wheel should be taken out also. There are safe wheels out there if that is something you are interested in.

I would greatly appreciate that dosing info. Private message ok? Thank you!

The top attachment actually weighs close to nothing — the aquarium base is the heavy part. It’s a 10 gallon glass aquarium. That photo is from the internet - I just wanted to post a clear image. She doesn’t have a wheel. The video shows the setup as it is. I’m very much looking forward to the Critter Nation cage arriving in a couple of days.
