Setting Up Shop

Hey everyone,
I’m currently setting up our 4.5 week old squirrel’s first enclosure and wanted to check in and make sure I have gotten all the proper supplies. I’m talking down to the little things like food bowls.

I’m ordering:
Midwest Critter Nation
Henry’s Healthy Blocks
Water Bottle
Fleece Liners
Metal Pan

What are the best “toys” to get for this age? What is the optimal food placement location in the enclosure while the top level is blocked off? Any other important tips are welcomed.

A running wheel would be good.

A running wheel big enough for a grey squirrel would not fit in a Critter nation cage very well because it would need to be very large. Keep in mind that any wheel needs to be large enough such that the squirrel's back is not arched backwards so they will not hurt their backs.

I know some folks have bought the "cat" wheels and say they work well.. but they are like $500 or something.

Grey squirrels are not very apt to use a wheel.

I buy only the Henry's Picky Block and Wild Bites... switch them up for some variety (variety in veggies when the time comes as well).

Any toys should not have buttons or beads (like the eyes and such). I avoid bean filled toys as well due to the choking hazard. Things on a bungy that hang are always a hit. :thumbsup
