Hi all! I am currently caring for a 7 week old black squirrel. During the last few feeds, his mouth has bled which has been consistent with cutting teeth as my older ones did the same thing. (Scared the snot out of me the first time it happened). Tonight, same thing happened with bloody mouth except it was significantly more. I would say maybe 0.5cc of a teaspoon or so of blood all over my hand, arm, and shirt where as normally its like 1/10 of a cc. My question, could he have bitten his tongue? Would it have bled that much? Thank you!

That does seem like a lot of blood but it is common for them to bleed when teething. Most new mamas freak out when they see blood on the nipple. The amount of blood is a little concerning but there isn’t much you can do about it. I would be watchful and hopefully it will go away.

Was he injured when he arrived?

No injury when he arrived. Hes been with me for about 2 weeks. I was expecting teething blood as my others did the same thing but this was more blood than usual. He winced just beforehand which makes mme think bitten tongue or cheek. He continued suckling and chewing after, including all over my shirt.
