Hi there,

I have rehabbed many different animals over the years but this is my first squirrel. She is doing amazing. She is gaining weight daily, making regular bowel movements, and reaching her developmental milestones.

I read that squirrels can have fleas, lice, or maggots that need to be removed. Ive combed her with a flea comb many times but didn't find anything. I bathed her and haven't found anything. But she does have these tiny little scab like spots all over. Is this indicative of fleas or lice? Am I just missing them? Or could these have been ant bites?

Any advice is welcome.
Thank you so much

Looks like (older) ant bites to me.

Fleas that squirrels host are long and kind of "swim" through their fur, not so much round a jumpy. Fleas are easy to spot on those white bellies!!!

Thank you. Thats what I've been thinking too. I feel like I really would've caught a flea if she had them at this point. Just keeping an eye on these scab like spots and haven't seen any new ones appear.
