I need some help! I got my flying squirrel when she was an adult but she doesn't seem to be taking to me too much. She is REEEEALLY shy! I've gotten to the point where she licks treats from my finger and will let me pick her up, but I'm just not reaching that "awesome bonded pet" stage that everyone talks about. :( I would have gotten another one to be with her because I know its not advised to have a single flyer... but my roommates won't let me get another one. Grrr. Any tips to help me and my squirrel bond?

How long have you had her? It can take quite a while to bond with an adult - the fact that she will take treats from your hand and let you pick her up is really a whole lot of progress! And she will make more progress as you work with her more. If you will PM or email me, I will help you with some ideas.
Single flyers do very well, and become closer to their humans. If you have two or more, they will tend to bond to each other, so your roommates can rest easy! However, Sugar Gliders need to have other suggies with them - they are very very social animals. Lots of people don't realize that they are different types of animals, because they are both small and adorable, but flyers are squirrels (rodents), and Suggies are marsupials, like 'possums, and they are from Australia.
Good luck with her - don't give up!

***UPDATE***
Things are getting better with my adult SFS. I changed her diet after doing research online about SFS's to include whole nuts in lots of varieties and she just goes crazy for them. :crazy I think she now sees me as the "nut goddess" because when its feeding time she has no fear of me what so ever. She also has taken a liking to sitting in my shirt on my bra (LOL!). If things keep going the way they're going I think we'll be inseperable. :wahoo
