Eggs?

I recall reading that fully cooked eggs were a good squirrel treat. I have a young gray squirrel (Joe), but was unclear on what a serving of eggs is for a squirrel? I assume I should leave the shell on (hard boiled) for calcium benefits? I don't salt the water or anything like that, but wanted to be clear on the specifics before serving. Thanks!

Sorry no one responded and I'm just see this now.
I take and scrambled eggs with no butter, cool give a few pieces now and then. My Conker loves it, then not much he doesn't like 🤣
I also boil eggs give him some of the white to him.
Mine won't eat the shell however that would be beneficial.

Once in awhile I give some small pieces of chicken breasts, not fried of course.
Out in the wild squirrels will eat bird eggs etc.
My vet has actually said occasionally the eggs, meat is fine for treats.
Not all squirrels will like it however.

Later in spring into early summer, squirrels are known to eat bird eggs; in eating raw eggs they go for the yolk that contains most of the fat but also contains protein. And though proportionally to nuts this is the least consumed source, it provides a high level of protein, fat, and B vitamins when these sources otherwise scare.

Recommend feeding soft-boiled eggs as this preserves more of the nutrients of the yolk, and the white fully cooked. And since the white is fully cooked before the yolk, it is easy to support soft boiling to where yolk begins to congeal not having yet changed color and hardened as it does hard boiled and the white is hard.

Fully cooked egg white is noted as the gold standard for protein; it is easiest to digest compared with plant sourced protein sources. In my research diet (research to improve the quality of the diet nutrient and taste wise also) soft boiled egg is fed daily.

I saw an E Grey eating a duck egg in front of a duck a few days ago. Eggs are def on the menu for wilds. Rodents are savage.

Eating the infrequent bird egg is often just a matter of survival, especially for mother squirrels with young at this time of year. The appearance of a hungry animal eating is no worse than a person downing a hamburger, save most humans rely upon others to do the deed. Very few creatures kill for other than food and/or survival; one that does is the King Cobra of Africa that slaughters others animals when it finds them.

I, too, have about the same opinion as you. It doesn't have to be otherwise. Although opinions may differ after all. Squirrels like eating chicken eggs. But, avoid giving them fried, boiled, poached, or scrambled eggs. A squirrel's diet does not include human foods.

Although fried eggs are nutritious for humans, they may be toxic to squirrels, particularly if salt and other spices are added.

If you feed squirrels in your yard, provide them things that they would find in their natural environment. Of course, you may buy wild squirrel food to put in their feeders, particularly if food is rare.
