Quick question - do baby squirrels need sunlight (real or artificial) every day? I can take Allen's cage out to my acreen porch if he needs some light, otherwise he's kept in my office, which has a window, but is shaded somewhat by oak trees. I've seen references to older squirrels needing light, but not much on babies. Thanks!

Yes, squirrels that are off milk (the milk has the vitamin D that they get from the sun when they are older) need sunlight. If you cannot put the baby outside in sunlight for at least 1 hour a day, then you can use a full spectrum light. Make sure it is full spectrum though with UVA and UVB wavelengths. Sunlight through a window is very low quality and doesn't provide the right wavelengths for them to make vitamin D which is needed for calcium absorption.
