Hello,
I recently started taking care of a round tailed squirrel, after its mother was killed. (I was given him by another). The first night he was skinny and dehydrated, I gave him some pedialyte and got some goats milk esbilac for puppy’s the next morning. The next day he was eating healthily, latching onto the syringe and had been pooping and peeing regularly. This is the fourth day however and he is now refusing to eat. He does not look bloated or emancipated and just wants to sleep. He is strong and moves around a lot however I am worried about his refusal to eat. Should I take him in? And how can I tell if he’s teething?

Have you made him wee?
I read somtimes they won't eat if they need to go
He could still be dehydrated have you checked using the neck skin test
I have just started looking after 2 baby gray squirrels it's my first time think i have had 2 hours sleep in the past 3 days 😂

So let’s address the formula first. I am pretty sure the goat milk esbilac isn’t good for them at all. It doesn’t have what they need and can cause digestive issues. How does the poop look? Teething usually doesn’t effect him like that either. I knew Tuff was teething when I saw a tiny bit of blood on his nipple. Completely freaked me out, but it was his teeth coming in so no worries about the teeth. What kind of nipple are you using? How often are you feeding? What temp is the formula? If it is to hot or to cold they won’t take it. Are there any other issues? How old is your baby? Do you have a heating pad under half of the container on low? If their body temp is to low they won’t eat either or it can cause issues. You need the regular Puppy Esbilac formula. You need to premix and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours before feeding I think. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

I had read on a few sites that GME was safe for squirrels so that’s how i started using that. The poop is brown and pellet shaped. I’m currently using a small o ring syringe and have listened to him breath to see if I can hear any clicking which I didn’t. He has a heating pad in half of his box that he can move in and out from. I keep him warm when feeding and re warm the milk in between. I premix the formula and keep it in the fridge for a few hours before hand. I’ve been giving him a little pedialyte that he takes drops of in case of dehydration.
