I got three Indian Palm squirrels. 6weeks old and are always running and playing. But from today one of my 3-striped Indian Palm Squirrel is having runny nose and watery eyes ( transparent water). Three of them were playing around and suddenly he stopped and became pause. I checked for aspiration pneumonia but didn't hear anything. Though I really don't know what type of clicking should it be. He is sleeping now. The other two squirrels are quite energetic though.
What could it be? Please help

The click from Ap could be very audible or quite faint, it could sound like a click, a tapping, or sometimes a popping sound.
If you hold his chest to your ear as you would a phone the "click" would be with both inhale and exhale.
Not all respiratory issues are ap but persistence of any type would still require administering an antibiotic.
I would start looking now for a ab instead of waiting to see where this goes, ap can take them down quickly.
Let us know what you can find, we can tell you if it can or can't be used and how to dose what can.

I tried hearing it but there is no clicking sound. But he is not moving at all. Totally paused state. Just watery nose and watery eyes (both transparent water). Is it some kind of allergy? I have 2 other Indian Palm Squirrels but they are fine and running around.
Right now he didn't drank any of the formula and is not moving. What should I do? Should I give an antibiotic anyway? Or is it just some cold?
It looks like he is very sick and I don't know what happened. Please help

Some symptoms of a respiratory infection include the following:
Symptoms:
1. Lethargic (inactive)
2. Difficult/labored breathing or rapid breathing or slow breathing and/or open mouth breathing
3. Rapid heartbeat
4. Fever or Chills
5. Pale, bluish to dark purple skin from a lack of oxygen (Look at lips and pads of feet)
6. Nasal discharge
7. Sweet or foul smelling breath
8. Wheezing, crackling, or clicking sounds when inhaling and/or exhaling
You are fully justified to be concerned about your squirrel.

If when eating or drinking or when being fed food can go down the wrong way, into the respiratory system. Inhaling a lot of dust can also cause similar problems. The younger the squirrel, the more vulnerable they are. This food can become a breeding ground for bacteria and lung function can become increasingly impaired.
Keep the squirrel warm, you can tuck them between layers of clothing. If they aren't eating that is strong symptom that there is a problem. Even if they will not eat, it is very important that they remain hydrated. Try carefully giving a few drops of lightly sweetened water. If they become dehydrated as well, things will deteriorate quickly.

Should I give an antibiotic anyway?
In my personal opinion, yes. I would suggest giving an antibiotic as soon possible. Soon being measured in hours, not days. An administrator from this site will need to approve the medication use and can provide proper dosing instructions.
They prefer to have the squirrel's weight in grams, if at all possible, to get the proper dose.
Here are five of the preferred antibiotics for respiratory infections. I have listed some of the different words that may be used to describe these products.
Bactrim: SMZ TMP (Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim), Bactrim DS, Sulfatrim.
Baytril: Enrofloxacin (a fluoroquinolone antibiotic). Made by Bayer.
Cipro: Ciprofloxacin. (a quinolone class antibiotic) Cipro XR, Cipro in D5W. There are many different names for the generic: Cetraxal, Ciloxan, Otiprio, Neofloxin, Ciproxin, Cibrobay.
Clavamox: amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium; amoxicillin trihydrate / clavulanate potassium. Made by Zoetis US.
Augmentin: amoxicillin/clavulanic acid; amoxicillin clavulanate. Amox Clav, Augmentin XR, Augmentin ES 600.
Let us know what antibiotics you have found and its strength.

Thanks for all the time you guys have me.
Yes I have kept him separate in a box with clothes inside. One time today evening during feeding time, he was opening his mouth. He right now has runny nose and after running around for 5 seconds, he is feeling a lethargic and not moving from that place. Also he is sneezing a lot .
There is this one problem, his poop is getting stuck halfway out of his anus. Today when he was not moving at all, I stimulated and cleared the strucked poop out (which had become quite hard) and at that instant he started running around again. But after 10seconds, he again paused in a place and didn't move.
He is drinking the formula but very less amount. Also the other two squirrels are fine.
I don't know if it's some respiratory problem or constipation or cold, but he looks sick.
So I am quite worried about him. Please help

Is there any side effect of giving antibiotics if there is no respiratory problem?

Stop the formula and give him hydration, drop by drop if that's what it takes.
Plain water with a touch of sugar for taste will suffice.
And please answer my question...
What antibiotic do you have or can obtain?
Is there any side effect of giving antibiotics if there is no respiratory problem?
He obviously has a resportory problem of some type, he won't have a side effect if not needed but could save his life when it is.

Sorry for the late reply... Right now I have Cifran 500 antibiotic. It contains ciplofloxacin. You can check it once. I don't have any other antibiotics.
I have not weighed my squirrel (don't have a weight machine) but is 5-6 weeks old.

If you mean to write ciprofloxacin, (just one different letter) then thought would be very effective for treating respiratory infections. Hopefully, an administrator will have a look at your post and give you dosing instructions.

His condition is getting bad. He is moving very less. Should I give him Cifran 500? What should be the doseage? He is like 80-85gms
I won't give it to him without properly knowing the doseage though

Yes you need the syringe for dosing. Most pharmacy (here) will give you a syringe just tell them you are nursing a kitten and need a 1cc syringe without needle.

Bactrim is a good med so is Cipro just tell me which I am to be dosing for.
Personally I'd go with the Cipro, it's faster acting.

Yeah I have amoxicillin 500mg capsule. Now what should be the doseage? He is a 80gm Indian Palm Squirrel... 6 weeks old
Also do I need any probiotic? If he doesn't have aspiration will it be fatal for him?

Yes, on the probiotic . I have checked out the Cifran 500 it's good to use, Amox is harder on the gut.
Dosing him with an ab will not be fatal, not addressing this soon may very well be.
Even if not Ap, it obviously is respiratory.

Ok what should be the dosing then?
I have Cifran 500 with me right now. He is as I said 80-85gms in weight. Sorry I have a weight machine.
His movement has become very less too. He is sometimes running for just 5sec and then just pausing.

If you do not have a syringe what do you plan on dosing the amount with?
80-85 grams would be the same dose.
FYI: Hydrochloride is the most commonly used salt in medications, salt supports electrolytes.

I have a 5cc syringe. Sorry but the pharmacy didn't have a 1cc or 3cc syringe.
The dosage required is such a tiny amount you can not get a reading on a 5cc or a 3cc syringe.
Any of the med to be dosed would just go into tip of syringe and plunger does not express out of the tip.
