Hello. I have been caring for 3 juvenile squirrels x 2 weeks. All were thriving until this am. The smallest & female has been lethargic and would not eat. She is also cooler to the touch than the other two. Her weight today is 65g. Her weight 2 days ago was 67g. I believe they are about 3-4 weeks old. The other 2 (males) and weigh 75-77 g. I have been giving 0.1-0.3 cc pedialyte but she’s barely taking any. No urine production since this am. I have amoxicillin, augmentin & cipro on hand. Please advise- very worried about this little girl- seems septic.

Here is a quick 6 page primer on baby squirrel care that might be helpful to review:

What formula have they been eating?
Hold her up to your ear like and listen for a persistent "clicking" with each breath.
What is the strength of the ciprofloxacin you have?

I have been feeding the puppy milk every 3-4 hrs (Esbilac liquid) Maybe I should be using powder & mixing it? I have 500mg tablets of cipro and amoxicillin suspension I could mix up

Yes, the Esbilac premixed liquid is not the same as the powder and is not adequate for baby squirrels.
Is she on heat? At this age they need heat...
Give me a few minutes to send the dosing instructions.

Sorry. I am new to this group. Where will you send the dosing instructions? My email? Yes they are on a heated cat pad with some fabric/ washcloths. Do you mix the powder according to the directions? The other 2 are doing great. What does the clicking indicate?

I will send them in a Private Message (PM) to you here on the board. If your user settings are set to receive email messages when someone PM's you you will also get that in an email.
Yes, the Esbilac powder is mixed per the directions (2 parts water to 1 part powdered formula).
Persistent clicking is a sign of aspiration pneumonia (AP), as is lethargy and loss of appetite. If she has AP it is critical she be started on the antibiotics / Cipro.
Do you have a small, 1ml (or smaller)syringe to dose the medications? Small amounts for a wee baby.
