Please forgive me I know there are probably derailed stickies for this but we are swamped here , I’m just reaching out if someone could please figure the dose in measurements so I can get this baby help as soon as it arrives?

All I know is it’s 59 g and has been in rehabber’s care only two days and now dragging rear legs . I have the Henry’s Calcium Carbonate powder we used for Tuff. My bag ripped and I no longer have the package with the mg /? strength the powder is.

if someone can help, thank you and so appreciate!!

If this is a 59gram baby, I would not think dragging her rear is MBD but rather a trauma that might be better treated with prednisone?

Agree, probably trauma and not MBD.

Ok, glad I checked..
It’s so tiny to have eyes isn’t it?
What kind of feeding schedule should I use, by weight or age? Can a 61 g baby be 5 weeks old?

I tried to x ray but her bones are too tiny for our machine to get good detail.

I’m starting her on FV now
She’s 61 g so maybe try the prednisolone?

A few years ago I took in a baby that opened his eyes at 40grams! Donatello (AKA Squirt) was released here and is a local legend for saving 3 orphaned babies...

I added Ultraboost to his formula to help him along. He grew up to be a smallish squirrel, but by no mean unusually small.

Yes to giving steroids IMO.

Feed by body weight,
This baby has to be older then her weight suggests.
Any back history on how long she was held by finder?
Can you post a picture...

I am on way home to get Ultraboost and will get pics ,
And just msgd the rehabber who brought her to find out more details (what did finder feed, low long etc) The rehabber only had her to days and used KMR.
Will post back in about an hour.
She took FV very well but will add Ultraboost.

If the finder also fed this poor little one with KMR then it's not surprising this baby is so small. :eek
Besides, at that age it only takes a few days - maybe even 2 or 3 (?) to lose weight. He will need to be supplemented with Ultraboost for sure. I do hope, for your sake and that little one's that you have not come across another Victor (with permanent damage :( )

Good job getting on the case so quickly, Marie. :Love_Icon

Ok so me and Marie checked this baby out..yes I am new but this little thing is beyond tiny. Like smaller to me than 5 weeks but eyes are open, walking around and doing the “S” with her tail..spunky too. Me and Marie both agree that there is definitely something going on and formulated our own opinion but we got good pictures and a video...I so wanted to bring this little nugget to the house with me!!! So I’m posting picture and I have a video of her post to you tube but don’t know how to put it on here, so bare with me. 31772531772531772631772731772831772931773031773131 7732317733317734

This little one was really skinny, and tiny. I felt across and all around her little body and I could feel every tiny bone. Hip bones we’re definitely sticking out. He head seemed big for he tiny body, but gosh she is so sweet!!! I got her to take about 2cc of formula and she was tired after she peed on me and went to sleep..definitely a fighter no matter what she has been through. She whimpers almost not like pain whimper, (as I have heard this before) but a I’m hungry whimper. She was active until she ate, wiggle squirming everywhere, climbed in my jacket and down my sleeve she went. I absolutely enjoyed meeting Soft Taco today and pray I can continue to help in her recovery!!! She’s a little gem..

She looks like an underfed young squirrel. Continue the course with feedings. If you haven’t added Ultraboost, I would. Gradually work up to the appropriate amount but don’t go too fast. I remember Patti talking about re-feeding syndrome when too much food is given too quickly and their tiny systems can’t handle it. My guess is the rear leg dragging was from weakness from lack of nutrition.

The rehabber I got my dwarf Joy from, fed her only 4% initially, but then never increased it. I cant be certain but wonder if she had gotten more food with Ultraboost added if she wouldn’t be plumper now. I, too, can feel my little girls bones. :shakehead

She sure is cute! :klunk

So you are thinking she is a dwarf? Or just malnutrition? Or both?

Right now I think she’s just malnourished. If you get her eating the appropriate amount of food and she doesn’t grow then I might reconsider. She doesn’t seem to have the wonky legs that dwarfs do.

When I got my first dwarf his eyes were open and he was moving fine. As time went on and I was feeding him the appropriate formula and number of feedings I noticed that he was gaining weight very slowly and not growing much. His facial features were different, too. Eyes were large, legs were short, tail was short and he couldn’t jump. He sorta bumbled when he walked.

For this little girl I’d weigh her every morning and document the weight gains.

She’s still snoozing but I’ll move her updates and pics over to the Nursery since she’s not actually “dragging “ now. She was , when the rehabber first brought her. She was barely moving her back legs; had them drawn up and kind of walked while sitting if that makes sense? And paddled her legs , like a frog swimming . 3 hrs later , after one feeding with FV, she could walk with all 4. Wobbly but walked. I went and got the Ultraboost and Tuff’s mom gave her feeding #2 with that added . By feeding number three, she was so much more alert and active. Still wobbles but stronger . She had been on “KMR” for two days (with the rehabber ) and who knows what /and for how long, with the finders . I called the number and left msgs for more info and they won’t return my call :( I’ve held of the prednisolone since she’s improving so well just with nutrition alone, and doesn’t seem painful. Thanks for the help! Will move her over to Nursery after she wakes up :)

Yea me and Marie were talking about her long back legs once she got them under her and went to moving. I can’t imagine what this baby has endured to get this way. My question is how long does it take them to go down this far? We wondered how she survived all the storms we had also.

I think they can lose weight pretty quickly. Did you rehydrate her prior to giving formula? I’d offer some slightly sweetened water between feedings. The water will also help flush the KMR out of her system.

I came in after the initial assessment by Marie. She sent me the video asking me about Tuff and MBD because dragging is bottom was my first red flag with him. That is how I got her to you guys. The video wasn’t very clear so I told her I would stop by. By the time I got there, the video I took, she had her legs back under her. Still not steady but no longer dragging. She started suckling my finger and she was hungry grunting..Marie mixed the formula and I sat down and fed her. She only took 2cc (we mixed up three). Out she went..Marie can fill in due to her having her all night and I’m sure there is more info to come.
