One of my friendly wilds, Punky, appeared yesterday afternoon with a clouded/milky-looking left eye that’s not as open as his other eye. Could this be an infection or trauma? (see video)

Is there anything I can do to help him? I don’t think applying eye ointment is a possibility but I may be able to give him something orally. I’m worried because I don’t want him to go blind since I’ve noticed that one-eyed squirrels don’t live very long in my neighborhood :(

Thanks in advance!

The cloudy eye can come from an injury, like running into a broken branch, or something.

Squirrels have no central focal point as human do, as I understand it. They have a 270 degree field of view so are gathering information about their environment from all around them.

Such cloudiness from trauma often heals in time, if the squirrel is healthy. Providing supplemental food as you are doing should help it to get through the winter and cope with health challenges.

I had a wild show up like this. I provided Henrys blocks and boo balls. It cleared up in a few days, so my guess is it was from injury. Poor nutrition can also cause it sometimes so supporting it with healthy food is a win-win. Henrys blocks can be ordered online at Henrys Pets.
