My friend gave me a"baby" squirrel earlier today since I have two.. This is not a typical squirrel by any means..but is plucky little character that follows me everywhere I walk.. You'd have to see him to belive it. I know small mammals pretty well..Im giving him goats milk via miracle nipple...he has a pretty nasty mouth infection that's on the mend...but still worrisome. My friend had him for over a week and gave up and decided to let me try to help him.

:Welcome to TheSquirrelBoard Watersong. I love your user name. :grin2
Your baby is precious and yes, the pic looks exactly like a dwarf. That little short face looks classic. We have several members that have been blessed with these precious little souls. Chickenlegs has had several. Mel1959 had Joey who probably was one of the longest lived dwarfs that I am aware of. You can get some great input from these members.
Just curious, what were you treating the mouth infection with? Some antibiotics are better than others for facial infections. I would love to share that if you are interested. I don’t know much about dwarf squirrels but I know quite a bit about infections. That’s what makes TSB great. It brings together people from different backgrounds that have knowledge in many area that can be used to help wildlife in need.
We’re glad to have you.

Simply adorable :Love_Icon:Love_Icon. Yes, he definitely looks like a dwarf....you are a lucky soul. :clap
Dwarf squirrels have different levels of functionality. My Joey was high functioning....he could sit up and eat his food, he could climb some and run, in a dwarf sorta way.
This isn’t to say that he didn’t have issues. He suffered from mega colon and was on two different meds. He didn’t eat much on his own so I fed him a mixture of FV 20/50, Ultraboost, veggie baby food, ground Harlan Teklad 2018 block and occasionally some chicken baby food mixed in. I fed him this about 4 times a day. I attribute his long life in part to this. I also have an awesome vet who knows and loves dwarf squirrels. :w00t
Joey lived to be over 3.5 years old. Because of all their abnormalities they don’t live long.....but what a joy they are to love. :Love_Icon
I’m here to help if you have any questions.
