We found a baby squirrel Monday night in our yard. I was alerted to his presence by a high pitched noise. He was surrounded by my two cats and was being encroached upon by a third. I quickly scooped him up and brought him inside and warmed him up and gave him some sugar water with a bit of salt. He appeared to have no open wounds, but did have a lump on his head and one on his tail. He was wet when I found him, so I am pretty sure he spent some time in one or both of my cats mouths. The next day I started him on watered down ebsilac and continued the sugar water. He was sleepy but would rouse when we fed him and appeared to be improving. I was really worried that he could have an infection because of the cats. It is illegal for a vet to treat a squirrel in Montana (illegal for anyone to even care for a squirrel), so, despite calling numerous vets, I was unable to find antibiotics. I saw several posts on here about colloidal silver. I realize it is controversial and I would have preferred antibiotics, but I figured this would possibly je better than nothing, so yesterday I purchased some and gave him a drop with his formula twice throughout the day. He had been peeing, but had not pooped. I was giving him warm baths twice a day where I massaged his belly downward hoping to stimulate things. I added a tiny bit of apple juice to his formula. He seemed to be doing well. Was active and chattering. Then, late last night when it was time for his final bedtime feeding he stopped eating before we were finished. I thought perhaps he was just tired and so put him to bed. Early this.morning I went to feed him again and he would hardly eat anything and he was lethargic. This has gotten progressively worse over the last hour or two and now I can't really rouse him. He is breathing, but just barely. Please help!

He needs an antibiotic. Call around to family and friends. Human or vet medications will work . You just need one pill, don’t worry about the expiration date. Post what you can find and the strength.

He may well have inhalation pneumonia, which can be quickly fatal. Keep him upright and warm. Snuggle with him.

Real antibiotics are likely his only chance. One or two pills from family or friends will be all you need. Post a list of what you have found.
