So our 4/5 week old (eyes not opened yet) Grey Squirrel has been eating like a fiend, but only eats 3.00 - 3.4CC of formula at a feeding. She is peeing and pooping but I am fixated on the amount as everything we have read says it should be more. I feel like squirrel's are like babies and only eat until she is full so it's okay but please tell me if I am wrong. She weighed 77g this morning and was 71 grams yesterday so she looks fine but I just want to be sure. Also, how long can I go between feedings now? We have her at 3.5 hours and once during the night. I have blended the Fox Valley formula with the Esbilac she has been eating to transfer her over to Fox Valley totally but how long do we do this for?

I read about a woman named Jennifer in Cumming Ga who does Squirrel rescue so we texted her but haven't heard back, we want to make sure she is put in the best position to thrive as a squirrel and I am getting so attached it's scary! Any ideas?

Thank you everyone for your help.

It sounds like she is well loved and I am sure she thrives on that and that is a thing that a person who has a lot of animals to look after might not have the time for.

I don't have the experience needed to comment on how much she is eating at that age. Just wanted to say good job and thank you.

Their eyes will normally open at 5 weeks, once her eyes open you can gauge her age from there.
Babies should be eating between 5-7% of their body weight which is the capacity of their stomach, your girl is eating just a tad over 5% which is fine.
As long as there is gain, your on the right track.

As far as transitioning from one formula over to the other, the idea is to slowly reduce the amount of one while increasing the amount of the other your transitioning to. If your doing 1/2 FV, 1/2 Esbilac, go to 3/4 FV 1/4 Esbilac for a few days then transition to full FV.

You can go 4 hours between feedings, feed baby before you go to bed then first thing in morning.
Smaller babies can go 6 hours without at night, babies 5-7 weeks can easily go for 8 hours.

If your attempting to place her with a rehabber I hope that pans out for you. Don't stress over getting attached, the majority of us do and still manage to do what's best for the squirrel. :grouphug

In the meantime below is a link to baby squirrel care to help you along, this can be a HUGE help.
It's 6 pages long with the next button on the top right corner.

She is very cute.

Eventually as they get older they will want to be swinging from the trees. That drive will get stronger and stronger, but right now she needs just what she is getting, a lot of love and care.
