My baby squirrel has been clicking and has been refusing formula and she has had formula come through her nose. My dad has some doxycycline that we used for our dog is there any chance we can use that to help treat her because we don’t have any vets open and tomorrow is Labor Day so they won’t open then. Please I need help! I’m so worried about my little girl

Josh, YES you can use doxycycline. Is it a pill? What is the mg of the pill or suspension. Do you have a scale to weigh the baby?

I can dose it for you.

Okay I’m so sorry. Yes it was a pill and my dad mixed it with the formula by body weight and she seems to be doing much better, her clicks aren’t as often anymore

I just sent an email to their registered email with request to come back to the board.

Edit: Never mind.... I see they returned as I was typing.

Like I said I’m sorry I was busy and I don’t get notifications for my emails but I’m here now and she’s doing better

UPDATE: she is doing well and there are no more clicks and she’s taking food very very well. She’s extremely active. Thanks everyone for their concern

Happy to hear that she is better. :) They crash so rapidly with pneumonia. I’m glad you started the antibiotic when you did.

How long should I keep feeding her the antibiotic? Like I said she is doing better but how long should I follow through?

Like Heart for Squirrels said, the pneumonia can act very fast, fine the night before and dead in the morning. This from first hand experience, unfortunately. Continue to watch her closely.

Be sure to use appropriate squirrel posture and means for feeding her so as to be sure not to have a repeat of the same.
