I have a male squirrel with a very swollen and sore wee wee. Can you put Neosporin on it? Its not scabbed but looks like it hurts. :(

How can I help him? The two are now separated. The female is sucking her privates now. They have squirrel cubes in the cage and are getting fed between 9 and 12ccs each feeding. (Now 7 weeks I believe) 316130

I would just make sure it stays open and clean but not put neo on it. They tend to fuss with areas that have salves and creams put on them because they are very fastidious about their fur, even as babies. If it starts to look redder you can use diluted betadyne on it but I bet if it is left alone for 24 hours it will look a lot better. Is he messing with it?

What do they weigh? We feed by weight, not age.

The female has been sucking on his penis as well as starting to suck on her vulva as of today. I've separated the two of them (siblings) for now. The male has bloody gums from back teeth emerging and now his penis is twice the size it normally is and looks like part of it could have been bitten off. I just gave him a warm water soak to try and ease him I to peeing. As for their weight I have been waiting for my scale to arrive in the mail. It says it should arrive tomorrow (the first one was faulty). If its not here tomorrow I'm going to go buy one at target or something.

They are also chewing on everything (I'm providing sticks, branches, pinecones, bark, squirrel cubes and a water feeder). But the female preferred to chew on and antagonize her brother.

How often are you feeding? You must keep them separated. They usually suckle each other when they are underfed. Do you have a small stuffed animal in with each of them and blankets?

Mel,

I have several shirts, a fluffy fuzzy hammock, and a fuzzy blanket. (Separated into two cages now.) I do not have small stuffed animals in with them but I will get some. Now I am worried they are getting underfed. They have been eating every 4 hours and no longer get the night feedings. (Per squirrel board recommendation) Chips (the female sucking) has been not only sucking on guac but biting him too.

If my scale isn't here by noon tomorrow I'm going and buying one at a store. (Should have done that in the first place).

I just gave him another warm bath. His penis looks really bad...

He is not messing with it. However he will not pee. Even after being soaked in warm water.

And is it betadine antiseptic cream?

Betadyne is a liquid. It is 10% povidone iodine, and is used diluted at 20-25 drops per 1/4 cup water. It doesn't burn or sting at all. It is available with the wound care stuff in the drug store. Betadyne is a brand name they will have perfectly good store brands that are a little less money. It is red in color.

You need to get in there with good glasses or a magnifying glass and see if there is a scab forming. If so you need to get rid of it so it doesn't prevent him from peeing because THAT will kill him. If he has a scab you need t soak the area with warm water for as long and you can and very gently roll the penis back and forth between your fingers to work the scab out and off. It may take a bit to do this. If he IS forming a scab, once you get it off I DO suggest either neosporin or even vaseline right on the tip. It will keep it soft so that you can continue to remove the reforming scab without hurting him.

I would simply feed both of them a bit more than you have been until you get a scale.

Thank you!!!!

Guac and his wee wee are doing fantastic! Hes peeing great. It looks fantastic and Both squirrels are doing fine separated.

I bought a scale and chips weighs 175g and guac weighs 125g. Chips is getting 10cc per feeding and Guac is getting 9ccs per feeding (4x a day).

I started feeding them an hour later in the evening and they aren't quite as hungry in the morning.

So feeding at 7am, 12, 4, 9. With 2 squirrel cubes in the cage each day. Along with some peeled green beans for this week.

I take it the little girl is doing okay with that, too?
