I was wondering what to put in her cage for her to file her teeth on at this age ? She is chewing on the metal part of the cage as if she is trying to file her teeth ? What do you guys recommend?

Oak branches, deer antlers, dried marrow bones, maple branches.

A squirrel chewing on the cage is one of the potential causes of malocclusion, which can be fatal. So, it is a problem.

One of the main reason that they chew on the cage is that they want out; they don't want to be in a cage.

Squirrels also chew when they are irritated or anxious. They are very sensitive to your emotional state towards them. If you are relaxed with them, they will be much more likely to be relaxed with you. They need contact.

A squirrel's teeth grow approx. 6 inches a year so they need to gnaw on things.

With a fresh oak branch they may even eat the cambium layer, which is a natural part of their diet.

Does the squirrel get any time out of the cage? How big is the cage?

You can give the squirrel a black walnut in the shell. It is unlikely that they can get into one at that age, but they will try. Even if they can get in it will be a lot of work, resulting in a pile of sawdust. The shell is very hard. If nothing else, it will become prize possession. Even a small pecan in the shell can be quite a challenge at that age.

I put smaller wire mesh on the inside of my squirrels cage to help discourage chewing on the bars. Plenty of exercise time, some pear tree branches along with some maple branches and some small stuffed animals seemed to help my two with their cage chewing problems.
