BLADDER INFECTION/UTI???

Is it common for female squirrels to get a bladder infection or urinary tract infection I'm asking about my Rosie. For the last several days she's been not herself not jumping and rolling and playing rather she is wanting to snuggle and that's not my girl. She is eating she seems healthy except for the odd behavior. I thought perhaps it was the temperature because the last few days we've had high temperatures here where I live and our central air conditioning broke so the internal temperature in the house has been an average of 80 degrees. We do have a window air conditioning put in and we Run 3 fans I always have a fan on Rosie it's not uncomfortable actually in the house so I'm wondering now if it could be something else. Thanks

Hello :grin3 urinary tract infections are not uncommon...my girl had them several times over the years...I noticed that she would be squatting and dragging herself...and when she did urinate it had a strong smell...and there wasn’t much...and it usually was dark. I don’t know if you’ve been seeing any of these symptoms...I’m sorry I don’t know much about her...her age, her diet, all these things could have something to do with her slowing down. Is she drinking her water and staying hydrated? Does she run free where she could have gotten into something? Just a few questions that might help with figuring out what’s going on with your girl. I don’t think the temps you’re talking about would be enough to make her lethargic...at least it’s never bothered my guys.

Edit: actually after rereading your post...you didn’t actually say she was lethargic...I do think sometimes they are a little more docile and loving...maybe hormonal. You say she’s eating and drinking...so I would keep a close eye on her and watch her for any other symptoms.

Does she have any actual symptoms? Straining to pee, clear signs of discomfort, really unusually strong pee smell? Because if her being calm and cuddly is the only symptom I would look at hormones. I have only had boys, and I can tell you that their behavior and emotions are dramatically driven by hormonal surges through the year. Zeke goes through a period where he is sort of indifferent to me - not mean or anything if you don't count my feelings (!) and then suddenly one day he hops into my lap and starts hugging me and insisting he curl up with one hand for a while and I get my loving guy back for a while. The same thing happened with Mister P. I kept swearing I would track these behaviors but they are all very familiar through the year.

Rosie is doing better now. I started her on baytril oral Friday evening. I had noticed on Friday while cleaning the shelf in her cage she pees on diluted red on the paper towel. Not much and very faint. She was also pee marking which she has never done. Just little bits here and there. So I began treating her. I also made an appointment with her vet for Tuesday if things don't improve. Yesterday she was back to doing summersaults and bouncing and jumping about. She did have a complete spay due to uterine infection months back and I suppose she can be driven by harmonies gone wild. I knew she was feeling better when she bit her daddy's finger, twice. She likes to pick on her daddy so he has to wear gloves in our room when she is out.
