Hello all I am new to these forums and so thankful I found them. My neighbors were having trees cut down today and three baby squirrels came down on one of the branches. They were not hurt but the workers with gloved hands put them in the bushes next to my house. Well, two of the little guys I was told climbed up in our maple tree but the other found him/herself in our garage. My husband carefully put him at the base of the tree where we were told the others had gone but I cannot see them up there anywhere. I will be honest I know nothing of squirrels other than loving to watch them in the yard. I have no idea how old they will be or if their mother will find them and its killing me. Their eyes are open and they can climb but I am still scared for them and don't know what to do.

The little one we put by the tree climbed up and made some screeching cries then climbed back down and is hiding in a ground covering plant at the base. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Edit: I just read the thread on determining the age of baby squirrels and I am guessing them to be around 6 weeks or so.

No everyone with dogs have fences in our neighborhood and no outside cats. The thing is they lived in a whole line of pine trees and they are still cutting them all down to put a fence in. I will look around more for the other two, I can hear them crying but I havent seen the mom yet. The one in our garage is in a nice shaded area out of sight right now under the maple tree.

The workers next door just came over to get the baby under our tree. They found the other two under a big bush by where the trees are being cut down and a larger squirrel is in the yard looking around they said. They moved to the opposite side of the yard to work for now and hopefully that is their mommy and she finds them .. There is alot of crying I can hear.

OMG Amazing is all I can say. I just went out on the deck to check on them and they were all gone. They lady cutting trees down said the momma came and snagged them up one by one and took them up into another set of trees in our back yard. (Which arent getting cut down) She said the momma wasn't even phased by the commotion or people. The babies were crying loud and one by one she got them!

Thank you all for your help I am just so happy it had a good ending =)

And now I know where to come if I ever run into this again .. its added to my favorites.

Its better if they can stay with Mom! You are gonna have to take the day just to keep a watch of them.....dont forget to get them some snacks! They are probably hungry babies!

I wish ... they said they normally do (I already asked =)) but these are thick pine trees so it makes it harder to see.

Wow -- I love a happy ending! Thank you PAanimalover for that one! I'm not happy about those beautiful pine trees, though.....that's all people do nowadays is cut down trees. No offense to the Colorado Plains but people are going to make this entire country look like the Colorado plains before long......:soapbox

Anyway I am so glad those babies are were they belong -- with mamma!

sounds like a wonderful thing! i'm so glad momma had another nest in YOUR backyard! that's quite a bit of luck.

if i were you, i would put some food at the base of the tree. maybe some cut up apples, walnuts, even cheerios. babies love those foods, and if momma loses track of them from maintaining the nest, they can feed themselves a little bit. (though i'd clear the food at night- you don't want raccoons attracted to the nest site).

good luck with those babies! like GB said, keep an eye out for more!
