Island rehabber,

I have a giardia question about this other squirrel someone found.

When I got Pipet on friday at 9 pm he was on can milk with diarrea and a God awful smell to his body. Figured that smell out when I wiped him down with a baby wipe. They let stool be all over him. His skin under his tail was getting raw but that's ok now.

Stool was yellow and he had dried feces all over him.

Pip, for short, was hydrated and started on diluted royal canin trying to get up to the 5 percent of his body weight . Friday amd sat he started out with 1.2 cc and pulled away, sat he ate 1.5 then 1.8 then 2cc. He pulls away full amd so does his milk line look full.

This baby was fed can milk for 4 weeks.

I am assuming he was at the end of four weeks old due to bottom teeth only on friday with the white fur on tail being 2 mm long but eyes still closed.

His top teeth broke through this am I teckon. They weren't there friday.

Site say when top teeth come through they are 5 weeks old even though his eyes r still closed..

He weighs 55 grams now amd is gaining fast since he only weighed 47 grams Saturday.

He has his last ratio cut down today to 75 percent goat milk formula to 25 percent royal canin for 2 or 3 feedings then full goat milk formula.

Stool went from watery diarrhea with hardly any color till you put it on something white like toilet paper on friday being a very light yellow tinge to yellow slightly firm on Saturday, to my concern of giardia last pm amd this am. Not much 2 pellets this am of what I think is grayish green but doesnt reallybhave a smell

So

So per request of ppl I trust here he was gradually switched to the recipie for goat milk formula.

His weight this am 55 grams gaining g about 2 grams a day since friday.

I am attaching a pic of this stool on a post along with this info typed privately.

Do I find the original post about new baby if I started one or since this is a new issue start a new post under no. Urgent even though giardia is serious.

Recap
Weight friday 40 grams
Weight today 55

Orginal funder had him on can milk for 4 weeks

Came in seriously underweight amd starving with pneumonia

Started on baytril friday night with the help of hrt4squirrels

Was switched slowly by solution cause can milk suck to royal canin and only got to full strength Saturday at 12am

As of sunday at 3 am was started on 75 percent royal canin to 25 perecent fiat formula then 50 50 percent amd is finishing hisast 3 feedings by 12 pm today and will be on goat formula.

Question 1: after u see the pic under the post does this look grayish green? Cause it doesnt have a smell

Since he is possibly 5 weeks going by the tail look amd bottom teeth were in on friday amd tops are herr this am with eyes closed the fact he has been through a lot with can milk by other person for four weeks then switching from royal canin to goat formula over the weekend .

How long would you keep him on the goat formula?

Sonce they reccomend fix valley 20/50 when eyes open.

If I put the post n the wrong place fill free to move it.

Sincerely
Mary and Pipet

Based on his history (on milk for 4 weeks, has AP, been on 1-2AB and has been through several formula changes), it will take a while for his system to start working properly. He is gaining weight (47g to 55g in 2 days) so I would continue with your current plan (goat milk formula for now, finish of the full treatment of Cipro for AP. At 4-5 weeks, switch over to FV 20/50. Watch to see if his poops improve, it sounds like they are heading in the right direction. I don't think giardia is an issue, I just think he needs sometime and consistency to rally. As long as his behavior looks good, his weight continues to increase daily, I think he will be fine. If he stops gaining weight, starts losing weight or you see bloody stool than obviously there are other issues.

Sir max dad,

Thank u . That's my gut feeling also. I camt believe people who wanted to keep him let him have dried smelly poo discharge all over his body. He smells better amd feels better. He has spunk when he fills the nipple . Goes from calm to spunky. Lol.

Likes to eat on his belly looking like super man with those long skinny arms out lol

Love pipet and mary

Hey Mary,

Just took a glance here ; been off the board awhile, got a lot going on here. I was so sorry to hear you lost the other baby. Looks like you’re working hard there, notes and all, wow!

I’m not a squirrel doc, so I’ll just offer to cheer you on. Just keep following the guidance these people here give; they’ve never let me down in a crisis. It’s easy to get lots of opinions from many (random rehabbers, the Internet, vets) but I have found that with my babies and sick ones, the helpers here on TSB have years of experience and wisdom as a community. They know their stuff :) Just breathe and let their recommendations and time ( as TD mentioned ) have a chance to stabilize this poor little one before making any drastic changes :)

Hang in there , you’re dedicated that’s obvious:)
