Hi all,
I found a chipmunk outside my home on Friday afternoon, 5/8. The poor little thing was writhing around and clearly needed to be saved from the street. We brought it inside and found a large box to put it in--we've added pine straw, a hand towel, and some fruit and nuts. We'll put a heating pad under the box tonight. It's been eating relatively well, but seems off kilter. It has been running in circles, which looks like a common issue. We've noticed a head tilt as well. Maybe head trauma or some type of parasite? We let him out in the sunroom today and he's been moving around better, but still isn't jumping.
Should I be concerned about disease? We haven't been handling him out of fear of that.
We're happy to see if we can rehab him (the wildlife rehab near us is full) but I just want to know I'm not putting our health at risk and what signs we need to look for to feel confident he's in good shape to be released.
Any advice is so appreciated! Thank you!
