I have had two squirrels for about a month now. They were about 3ish weeks when I got them. One is doing fine and is gaining the proper amount of weight while the other is 15-20g under weight. He has gained some weight going from 77g to 83g. He has had diarrhea for two weeks. I had him on SMZ-TMP for a week and it cleared up so I started to stop it. Well.. it came back in a few days. I have since started it again but nothing is seeming to work. I order KOCHI FREE off of amazon because I saw a lot of reviews about it working on coccidia. I believe he MAY have that. He’s not vomiting. Just a poopy butt. It was a clear jelly like consistency but is now a watery yellowey mess. Now his sister has a poopy butt. Both have normal appetites. No fever. I have no access to albon or any of that stuff. I’m afraid to call a vet and ask. He has been on pepto and Imodium. I’ve had him on and off on pedialyte to prevent dehydration.

Do you live near a tractor supply store? Or any type of farm/feed store. There is a drug that is a derivative of the drug in Baycox, which is ponazuril. The product is marketed under the name of Marquis paste for horses. If you can call around and see if you can locate it, it will kill coccidia.

I do. I will go right now and get it. Thank you so much!!

What will it look like? And does it fall under any other name?

What is dosage?

They could also have an intolerance to Fox Valley. It doesn’t happen often, but I’m sure it’s possible. You could get the ingredients for the homemade goats milk formula and switch them to it. It’s 3 parts Goats milk (fresh is best since it is in its natural form), 1 part heavy whipping cream and 1 part full fat yogurt (vanilla is a good choice).

I would try one change at a time. Two weeks is a long time for diarrhea in a little one.

Call to be sure they have it and there’s no restrictions on buying it.

It is in a large plunger/syringe. I suppose there could be other named products that have the same drug, ponazuril. The Marquis product contains 150mg per gram of paste. This product must be diluted prior to giving. We can help you with that once you get it.

I did notice this after switching from esbilac to fox valley. What should I put them on now? Where can I get the goats milk?

Also should I get the esbilac goats milk? Or they have “kids milk” at tractor supply for baby goats. I don’t know what brand to get. I’m out now and can get it all. I just want to get right stuff:(

Question not asked, How many cc's per feeding?
Are you feeding between 5-7% of body weight?

The goats milk comes from the grocery store. It’s in the refrigerated section. The heavy whipping cream is in the refrigerated section where the coffee creamer and half and half are. Make sure the yogurt you get doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners. Full fat (whole milk) is best, but if you can’t find it, low-fat will work. One that you can usually find is made by Stoneyfield and called Yo Baby.

Do NOT get goats milk goat formula or goats milk esbilac.

Yes I have been doing 5% body weight for feeding. My boy weighs 82g and my girl is 105g

Okay. Thank you. I’m headed to get everything

How long does the goat milk mixture last one mixed up

Mel1959
04-30-2020, 10:07 AM
It should keep for a day, maybe a little longer. You only want to mix up what you’re going to use at a time or if you mix more than pour some into an ice cube tray and freeze them.

How have you been storing your Fox Valley powder? In the freezer or fridge?

I mix the FV every time I need them. I don’t refrigerate the powder tho.. should I?

I wasn’t able to find ponzuril but I found fenbendazole

Mix up enough FV to last for about a day. It’s best that it sit for at least an hour before feeding. Store the remaining bag of powder in the refrigerator or freezer. Smell your FV and be sure it’s not rancid. What is the expiration date? Rancid formula is a problem and can cause diarrhea in itself.

They had Bactrim in tractor supply also. Should I try that?

Not it. I read it wrong

Fenbendazole doesn’t treat coccidia, just worms. Did you ask them if they had anything that would treat coccidia? The drug name for Baycox is Toltrazuril and the drug name for Albon is Sulfadimethoxine.

No but I will go back and ask

Ashlie, you can order Baycox from this website: https://www.beardeddragon.co/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=246 Get the liquid form if there’s a choice and we can dose it for you.

In the meantime try switching over to the goats milk formula. We recommend transitioning slowly so it doesn’t cause diarrhea but....you should probably do it somewhat gradually.

Are you hydrating since they have diarrhea. I’d recommend it in between feedings.

Thank you. I will order baycox. I am hydrating in between feeding. I am going to switch them over to goats milk. I’m afraid the fox valley is spoiled. How do I transition?

Mel1959

What makes you think it’s spoiled? Does the powder smell old or does it smell sweet, like vanilla? Fox Valley smells good in its powdered state.

If it’s truly rancid then I don’t think I’d worry about transitioning. I’d just mix up the goats milk formula (you must have the whipping cream and the yogurt, not just straight goats milk) and start feeding it. They can’t remain on the goats milk formula indefinitely. It doesn’t have enough nutrients. So.....you can order another bag of Fox Valley20/50 or order Royal Canin Baby Dog formula. It comes from the UK so the shipping on top of the formula cost makes it a little pricey. Other folks have had good luck with another product called Zoological Milk Matrix which is much the same as Fox Valley. There are many versions of it to match up to the different species of wild animal you’re trying to feed.

I know it’s been a couple of days since I’ve replied to this thread but I’ve had my babies on the goat milk formula and they have done well and their poop was brown and solid and now the boy has yellow poop and my girl has blood colored poop. I’ve done everything everyone has told me I’m not sure what’s wrong now. I ordered the baycox it has not shipped yet.
