Hey everyone.
So I am a new squirrel momma to three wonderful little ones. They are about 7 weeks.
I believe one or two of them have some clicking while breathing. They have not shown any other signs such as extra lethargy or lack of eating. The one that I am especially nervous about is Gus Gus. He does not like to leave my side so I get to listen to him a lot.
He does not “click” all the time. It is only about every 3-5th breath.
I have read on some of your posts about a humidifier helping? Or do you think I should get him some antibiotics?

Welcome to The Squirrel Board

This is a helpful guide for baby squirrel care.

When they have aspiration pneumonia the clicking is with every breathe. They will also be lethargic and stop eating. Sometimes they do make clicky sounds with their mouth that isn’t pneumonia.

To be on the safe side, it would be a good idea to locate an antibiotic to have on hand just in case.
See what you have and ask friends. The best choices are Baytril, Ciprofloxacin, SMZ-TMP, Bactrim, doxycycline, etc.

If you see the appetite fall off it will be critical to start antibiotics ASAP. We can dose it for you.
We would need the weight of the baby and the mg of the antibiotic pill.

One more thing, what are you feeding the babies?

I was feeding them the esbelic for a couple days till I saw the new warning about it and switched the the goat milk formulation and ordered the 20/50.

Perfect. :thumbsup

By the way, in my previous post autocorrect changed the word ‘clicky’ to colicky. I realize that ‘clicky’ isn’t a real word but sometimes you make them up to convey the message. :peace Apparently my iPad is so disgusted with my abuse of the language that it is just creating its own dialogue. :rotfl It’s happening a lot lately.

How is the clicking? Is that gone? Are you still hearing it?

It is much decreased. Maybe a light click every 5-10 breaths.
But yesterday one of them started having yellowish diarrhea. It does not have a smell. No personality changes. I supplemented yesterday with homemade pedialyte. I’m going to assume it was secondary to the esbilac and that it should improve.

Yes, I hope so.
