Aspiration Pneumonia!!!!!

Hi all! I took in two baby squirrels, around 2.5-3 weeks old. One of them, Cody, recently developed a clicking noise when breathing. It is not constant but does happen sporadically until he adjusts himself. He is also always sleepy. When I feed him and lay him down again, he barely moves around and just falls asleep, lethargy??? I don't want to give him Baytril unless I am certain it is pneumonia. I have them on Esbilac formula currently, Fox Valley formula is coming Monday. I am unsure of his weight. I will link the video of them breathing. The one I am concerned about is on the right. Thank you!!

Can’t tell much from the video. What do they weigh? I think feeding them the homemade goats milk formula is better than Esbilac. Which Fox Valley formula did you order? It’s hard to tell from the video, but they look like they might be on the thin side.

When you hold him up to your ear like a phone do you notice the clicking with each breath? Did he aspirate at any time? Do you have a Baytril? We would need a weight on him and the strength of the meds to dose it.

I am unsure of their weight, I need to track down a scale. I ordered the 20/50 FV formula. I agree, they do seem thin. I have been feeding them every two hours 1.25-2 mL and they have both been drinking good. I dont hear the clicking all the time, he will click every breath for a couple minutes straight and then stop, and breathe normally. He has aspriated, and I turned him upside down and tried to wipe up all the formula. I don't have Baytril at the moment.

Are you keeping them on a heating pad? They must be kept warm.

Do you have family or friends that may give you antibiotics? One just need one pill. Someone here can help you dose it.

You need to check with family friends whoever you can and see
what kind of ab you can come up with, we can tell you if it can
be used and how to dose. You would only need a pill or two.
Ap will take them down and out fast, being underweight even faster.
Time is not on that baby's side, you need to act fast!

I was able to find 500 mg amoxicillin. Would this work? If so would you let me know the equation for dosage. Thank you so much!

It is not the best and slow acting, but better than nothing.
