I need help, ive had my baby for almost 3 weeks now and he is going to be 6 weeks old. Developed green mucus diarrhea that smells swampy and bitter. Ive been rehydrating all night and feeding goatmilk yogurt formula and starting fox valley whenever it gets to me
He is underweight 70 grams
I heard panacur can help with giardia but the only one i can access quickly is panacur for equines, can i use that? And if so how do i measure the dosage for him?

Thanks for helping your baby!
I just went through the diarrhea with a 6 week old. She came to me from mom in good shape, firm, dark pellets.
I started her on gmf with egg yolk. She started having loose, smelly stools that persisted until she was switched to fv.
And while the gmf sustained her, she didn't gain weight and seemed to just feel bad.
After a few days on fv she made a complete turn around and is performing on the same level as a couple of wilds that are the same age.
How far out is the fv order? Do you know anyone you could borrow a little from?
Keep checking back here for help!

Hopefully it will get here in the morning monday, ive been giving him gmf durring the day and rehydrating him all night, he had solid poop this morning! Still stank though. The only reason the smell worries me is because ive had him for almost 3 weeks and this smell didnt start up till he opened his eye a couple days ago! Soi was thinking giardia and how i could dose panacur for him. He is 72 grams today!

Can you get your hands on some Panacur for goats? I have seen it at Tractor Supply. This product is the correct strength of fenbendazole for treating wild mammals which is 100mg/ml. The dosage for your 72gr squirrel would be .04ml 1 time a day for 5-10 days.

Panacur doesn’t treat giardia, at least it doesn’t in dogs or cats (I’m a vet assistant). But the way we dose our panacur is weight(pounds) divided by 5. That answer is the amount the dog/cat will need for 3 days. Then repeat in 3 weeks. But like I said it doesn’t treat giardia. Panacur mainly treats hook, round and whip worms. You might need some metronidazole. It treats unknown diarrhea and giardia. But it’s a prescription drug and i don’t know if squirrels can get giardia.

Panacur will treat Giardiasis according to the Revival Animal Health website as well as the Wild Mammal Baby Book. It actually has a 96% effective rate versus metronidazole which only has a 60-70% effective rate. The two drugs can also be combined as both are very safe.

I’m going to try to help but this will be difficult. I assume you have a scale that weighs in grams right?
Paste is difficult to dose but I will do my best.

I’m going to assume you have a scale.
I will do the initial weighing instructions on this thread. When we establish a weight of a defined amount I will send you a Private Message with further dosing instructions.
You need to get a small square of aluminum foil about 3 inches x 3 inches.
Place this on your scale and zero it out.
I see the poster has left the thread so I will have to wait.

If this was a pill or a liquid, it would be very easy to dose. Because this is a paste, a defined amount has to be weighed. From that weighed amount it will be possible to determine how many mg are in that specific aliquot. With that information, the paste would be further diluted to get a solution measured as mg/ml.
This amount would be placed into a formula ...
weight (kg) ✖️ dose (from a wildlife book) ➗ concentration (mg/ml) = dosage
So it is not as simple as giving a blob of the paste.
