*****HELP! Possible Malocclusion Issue ****
I am looking for temporary pain advice. My girl (eastern gray) has been standoffish for since late October which was early for estrus but she has remained that way since and as such prevented me from checking her teeth as I regularly as I normal. Typically, she allows me to check them whenever I want and I do it often. It isnt odd for her to distance herself from December - March because of her season.
I was astonished this morning (she relaxed enough for me to hold her and flip her onto her back and take a good look into her mouth) to find that her left incisor has grown backwards and may have impacted her palate!
I immediately located an exotic vet to get her checked but the appointment isnt until 2 weeks. (understand that I am in a state where it is illegal to have a wild squirrel) - another story. I am on the cancellation waitlist but in the meantime I suspect that her edginess and distance has had more to do with discomfort than estrus.
She is 5 years old and has never had a single tooth issue so this is a complete shock. She is still eating well. Thank God.
Is there anyone out there who can help me provide her some temporary relief with OTC pain meds until she is seen?
To say that I feel like the most neglectful and awful caretaker is just not enough....
