Hi all squirrel parents, reaching out for an issue with our baby, Albert. We have no idea how it happened but, after returning home for a day and a half we saw his finger like this - the less up close photo with the paw circled. I noticed a cut, and then the swelling on the knuckle. Day two, the hair is coming off and the cut seems to be bleeding more... Unsure if it happened in his cage, if she started biting at it from anxiety, but I am freaking out! She lets me hold it, put pressure on it without squealing, but will not use it to move around. She still uses it to hold food, but curls it weird.

Initial questions - put Neosporin on it, did a salt water rinse, but am worried about needing an antibiotic... We are waiting for our vet to get back in town in a few days to take her there but am worried until then... Any advice? Is she trying to chew it off?

It there a chance that a hair or piece of thread is acting as a tourniquet? Does it feel warmer than others? Maybe a pinch accident in her cage?

Hard to tell, but working on finding a magnifying glass to get a closer look. It does feel warmer, and looks as if the part of her finger holding the nail is almost off..

It may well be something around it. I had one a few years ago who lost a finger due to something similar. I think it was one of my hairs actually. :eek
You may really not be able to get it off so be careful.

She feels a little warm, when you had this experience did you treat with tyneol or ibuprofen? or Motrin? I'm just nervous about the heat
