Hi TSB friends!

This guy showed up today with what looks like a bad case of mange. The whole upper top half of his body is pretty much bald. How can I help him? Ivermectin? Can that be ordered online? This would be my first time attempting to treat mange in a wild, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

He's not one of my regular daily visitors, so I'm not confident I'll see him again but if so I'd like to be prepared. I gave him some Henry's blocks today on the fire escape. He'll come right up to my hand so getting a laced treat to him wouldn't be a problem. I saw him once last week and his condition has greatly worsened since then.

A few years back I had a little yard squirrel with mange.
I treated him with liquid ivermectin.
It took exactly one month, and 3 doses of ivermectin, dosed 10 days apart,
to make an almost complete recovery.

Our temps at the time, were insane and I worried so much about
him, that I would heat up a pizza stone every morning, put his pecans
on it, so he could get warmed up for a while..........BUT HE NEVER USED IT! :hissyfit

Luckily after the cold spell our temps warmed up nicely and in the last picture
you can see how he is almost fully furred.

You're little one reminds me so much of my little guy. :(
Let me see if I still have the ivermectin, and if I do, I can send some to you
along with how I dosed it.

Thanks, Nancy! That would be great. Happy to reimburse you for cost/shipping via PayPal (or whatever works best). I'm headed out of town for a week on Saturday, but I'll be on standby watching for him as soon as I get back. It looks like our temps are going to stay relatively mild, so hopefully he can hang in there in the meantime.

:rotfl The pizza stone! Bless your heart. He looks gorgeous with that big fluffy healthy coat.

Thank you!
I know his coat came in pretty quickly and filled in nicely.

PM me your name and address and I'll get it in the mail asap.
I saw that too about the temps. I'm glad to hear that.
I know the ivermectin will help your little one and he'll be as "good
as new" real soon.
Have a safe trip!

Today was my first day back from vacation and luckily he showed up. Gave him a drop of Ivermectin on a pecan (thanks Nancy! :w00t) and took a few pics. Will monitor his progress and give another dose in 10 days. Fingers crossed for a full recovery for this sweet boy.

Update:

This little guy is doing great! He got his second dose of Ivermecin today. I'm so pleased to see improvement since his first dose 11 days ago. He now has nice new hair coming in on his shoulders and the scabs on his lower back are healing up. He seems to be feeling better. I caught him sunbathing on the windowsill yesterday. The warm sun must have felt so good on his skin. He's a real sweetie.

Update: His coat is back!

This little guy has turned out to be such a hoot. My husband wakes up earlier in the morning than I do to go to work, and every day for the last 6 days he has found him waiting patiently on the fire escape- bright and early, just like clockwork. He wakes me up to tell me that Larry's here (that's what we've decided to call him), and I get up out of bed and give him his handful of almonds for breakfast. He's a satisfied customer!
