My wild foxers prefer in-shell pecans to everything else. I have been buying 25lb boxes from pecans.com "for squirrels" / "not for human consumption" and they are very cheap: under $2 / lb. You can find them here:

https://www.pecans.com/squirrel-pecan/

I'm now starting to worry about whether "not for human consumption" is suitable. I've been cracking them open to check for mold and about 1 in 10 are bad. Seems dicey. Any thoughts?

Looks like these are organic. That's good for those not produced organically in the US. are by law required to be fumigated. Unless there is an organic toxin used, which you should inquire about, then this source hould be ok to feed to the wilds, that is, if the non human consumption nuts aren't from last years crop, they should be ok.

I buy pecans from a family run orchard in Tippington, GA called Ellis Brothers. They also sell “not for human consumption” pecan squirrel food in 40lb bags. The cost of the pecans isn’t too bad at $65, but the shipping is an additional $19. :(. I haven’t found any cracked nuts but haven’t cracked them open to see that they’re all ok, either.
