Eating litter?!

I currently am trying to get my 6 week old squirrels to litter train. Tonight, I purchased the sophresh training pearls, and they keep trying to chew on them even with their chew rings in their enclosure with them. Please help. I want to train them, but I do not want this being toxic for them. Has anyone else had this problem?

The typical litter box filler that most folks use is care fresh bedding. If it is placed inside a shallow pan with a hardware cloth cover the squirrel won’t be able to eat it. The hardware cloth is bent and sits inside the shallow metal pan with screws holding it in place.
