Squirrel found in cat"s mouth last night. Limited movement but pulls away feet when forceps pinch. Was gasping for air last night but not doing that, today. Started on Baytil. Will give fluids subq. She weighs about 300 grams.have banamine, carpofen, clavamox, penicillin, and butorphanol.

Marykay, thanks for helping the baby. It appears you have access to a lot of drugs. :thumbsup I noticed that you started with Baytril. While it is excellent for Pasteurella that is common in a cats mouth, it does have gaps in the coverage for a cat bite. The mouth is full of anaerobic bacteria (those that grow without oxygen). Baytril has no coverage for anaerobes. We have found that cat bites treated with Baytril initially seem to get better but later on abscess. That’s due to the anaerobes that break through. Clavamox has a broader spectrum and is much better for cat bites.
By limited movement I assume you’re referring to a possible spinal injury. Depending on what drug you have access to, an anti-inflammatory like Metacam or a steroid like prednisone might be helpful to regain function.
