Possible broken tail -- approximately 1.5-2 weeks old

I have two new female Eastern Grays that I just picked up. Both appear hydrated and are pretty chunky. One is 46g, the other 43g.

The smaller one was injured when the tree came down. I think it's tail may be broken, close to the base. It bends a little farther than it should. It also has considerable bruising on the abdomen.

Two questions:

What should I do for the tail?

Should I feed it normally with the abdomen looking like it does?

There really isn’t anything you can do for the tail right now. It might heal normally. We just don’t know. If it turns out that the tail is limp, she might be a candidate for partial amputation before release. I wouldn’t worry about that now.

As far as the abdominal bruising, again not much you can do. Let’s just hope it’s bruising and not serious internal injuries. You should know soon enough if it’s life limiting. I would start hydration and start formula after some hydration.

Edit.... I would watch for infection in the tail. Do you have antibiotics in case they are needed.

I don't have the antibiotics. I can obtain them tomorrow. This is the first one I've taken in with an injury. I'm still sort of a rookie, LOL.

You probably have already peed them, but with the bruising in the abdomen like that, it would not be surprising if she pees some blood. Not much can be done for that. Do you have any infant ibuprofen. At that size you could give the beat up one .02ml for pain and inflammation.

Unsure. A friend of a friend is a land clearer. After they were done with the job, they heard the squeaking and found the drey. I got them within about three hours of them being found.

She made it through the night. When I started feeding her, she gave me a few boisterous squeaks. She then ate just under 2 mL and she's 46g this morning. However, I was unable to get her to urinate or defecate. She did have a dark stool last night at last feeding around midnight.

The bruising on her abdomen has worsened. I did see, what I believe, was a little bit of movement of her tail, so I figure that is a good sign.

She's eaten 2mL @ 8:30,10:30, & 1:00. I was able to get her to urinate a small amount. Still no stool produced since last night, although it's visible at the anus.

Sometimes it takes awhile to get pee and poop. It depends on how long they were without mom.
You might want to rub a little warm oil on the anus to help the baby push it out. With all that bruising I would suspect it hurts the baby to push. The fact that the baby survived the first 24 hrs is a good sign. Movement in the tail is also a good sign.
