Squirrel escaped

I have had a grey squirrel for the last month and a half. I got him when he was around 3 or 4 weeks old, his mother was killed on my husbands job site. He escaped yesterday and is in the trees, and will not come down! He comes back to the tree closest to the house in the mornings but will not come close enough for me to touch him. He’s not taking the food that I left out for him or going into his cage. I am unsure if it’s safe to let him stay outside or what I should do, if it’s not.

So he is 9-10 weeks old. We like releasing them around 14-18 weeks. His release is not ideal. He does have all his teeth in. I would keep putting food out for him and keep trying to catch him. After a day or two he might be more open to the idea of coming back in. Make sure there is water available.

You might be able to lure him down by showing him a syringe of formula.
