View Full Version : Possible Pneumonia ??
: Pneumonia video
I have an about 8week old grey squirrel. We've had him for 3 weeks. He's been doing well, eating, gaining weight. Today after feeding he was breathing heavy and if I held him up to my ear i hear a click.... not like the video. He just wanted to lay down and sleep after that. His heart seems to beating fast. His snuggle snack is moving constantly. I haven't offered food since he's been the last 2 hours. Should I treat for pneumonia? Or wait and see. I only have a 500 mg amoxicillin caplet, clindamycin 75mg capsule, And cephalexin. He weighs 160g

None of these drugs are very good for pneumonia. You can start with the cephalexin and you need to go hunting for Cipro because that is the drug you really need.
Need the milligram size of the cephalexin/

Dosing sent by PM.
I was able to contact a local rehabilitation women. She came over with Baytril and got the dosage measured out for twice a day for 10days. On the phone before she got here she told me to prepare myself because they rarely survive pneumonia. Once she arrived and administered the first dose to show me how, she said she had more hope because it was early. Is there anything else I do to help her?

Aspiration pneumonia has a very strong recovery rate as long as the proper drugs are administered in enough time.:grouphugHope your baby does well.

Treat her like she is sick. Keep her nice and warm, let her get a lot of sleep, don't encourage her to run around and play. I am so glad you got the Baytril!
Thank you. She was feeling better this morning. I didn't hear any clicking and she ate her rat block. She didn't want anything to do with her formula. She had a tiny bit of apple after the Baytril. Then she licked the condensation from my water bottle.

She didn't want anything to do with her formula. Then she licked the condensation from my water bottle. This sounds like she is dehydrated, which could cause a lack of appetite.
With the antibiotics, make sure you offer her lots of warm water.
