It's been a while since I've been in here and of course, I took other advice before toddling in again. My situation is this: I've been asked to care for a baby (3 weeks at time of abandonment. His eyes open now but still unsteady on his feet so I'm guessing just at 4 weeks, now). Luckily, I had a can of Esbilac from last year's rescue in the freezer but I worried that it wasn't fresh enough so I purchased a new can. Also luckily, the warnings about Esbilac are all over the internet so I didn't even open the new can and instead immediately ordered Fox Valley 32/40 as recommended by rehabbers.
Large groan.
I opened the package of FV so cannot return it but have not fed it to the baby. It takes three days to order again. I know you don't recommend the 32/40 ever but is the problem only with pinkies? Has anyone lost an eyes-open kit on it or seen health issues? Should I toss it and just keep feeding the (possibly freezer-burnt but still smells okay) Esbilac until I can order the other FV?
I know it's not extremely urgent to have the answer immediately, however, it would be good to have it before tossing what might be perfectly good formula. At least I can return the new can of Esbilac to the pet store.
That will teach me check here first before assuming I know something lol.

I would not feed the 32/40 to anything.
There may be a simple solution.. if any of your Esbilac cans says "Made in the USA" (even the one from the freezer) they should be safe to use for a few days.
I have noted that almost all of the cans with the bad formula have "Crafted in the USA" on the label.
In the event that all of yours say "Crafted in the USA", I would recommend using Esbilac Powdered Goats Milk Formula (from a Pet store) instead.
As far as we know the calcium particles in the Goats Milk Formula have not changed in size.
I cannot recommend a specific pet store.. as I do not know which ones operate in Narnia.

Javarat... they are now seeing problems with the Goat Milk Esbilac. At this time I believe all PetAg products are unsafe.
You should order the FoxValley 20:50 to be completely safe. Chances are the old Esbilac in the freezer is better than the new Esbilac currently available. Your other option is the use the temporary goat milk formula on this board until the FV arrives. 3 parts goat milk, 1 part heavy cream, 1 part yogurt.

There are plenty of satyrs in Narnia but few nannies, alas-- I've looked for actual goat's milk before and can't find it since our Natural Foods grocery shut down. The 2018 Esbilac smells fine, I only worry about nutrition after such a lengthy stay in the freezer.
I will order the 20/50. Thanks.

Next time you are in the grocer, look for the powdered goat's milk in the baking isle... with the condensed milk and such. Going forward to next season it is highly likely the recommended formula for up to 4 weeks will be a modified version of the hGMF (homemade Goat's Milk Formula) that will be permanent (non-temporary) formula. They almost always have the powdered version.
There are many very dedicated and determined folks working on this now.... :thumbsup

Is there a Walmart in Narnia? If so, check the baking aisle where the condensed and evaporated milk is and you should find Meyenburg whole goats milk in powdered form. You want to mix it with water per the label directions - their site says the 12oz can of dry makes 96 oz of fresh goats milk so that sounds like 8 parts water to 1 part powder.
Then you use THAT as the fresh goats milk in the recipe.

HRT4SQRLS - I swapped mine to a 2:1 mix of Zoologic 33/40 and 30/52, with a 2:3 powder/water ratio.. and they are all doing wonderfully now.
One of my mentor's runs just straight 33/40 and it seems to work fine for her.
