The day before yesterday we found a baby squirrel which died yesterday. Our neighbors found another baby squirrel and a mother and a baby squashed on the road. Can someone give suggestions on what to do/give it? Also, we think the other squirrel died from aspiration pneumonia so can someone please recommend the correct size syringe/eye dropper to feed it with. My father bought Esbimilac but I heard it was not recommended for small mammals. The squirrel isn't a newborn but it's still quite young.

Here is a 6 page long primer on baby squirrel care... if you have questions after reviewing this, please ask!

Droppers / nursing bottles should not be used with squirrels as the pose a high risk of aspiration pneumonia. We use syringes (no needles). Usually the pharmacy will give you a few if you ask... tell them you are feeding a neonate kitten (just makes it easier than getting into a squirrel discussion... which they may have less sympathy for squirrels).

Also, the Esbilac should not be used, recent changes have created some serious problems. Here i what we recommend until you can order and receive Fox Valley 20/50 formula:
TEMPORARY GOAT'S MILK FORMULA:

3 parts goat’s milk
1 part heavy whipping cream
1 part vanilla yogurt

Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.

Hi thank you! We have the old version of Esbimilac so we thought it was safe. We bought a puppy nursing kit and fed her, it was a nursing bottle but we also put some milk in a tiny cap. I was wondering if you know any Squirrel Rehabilitators around the NYC area so we can drop her off for better care. Thank you again for the help!
