I have no experience with this, so can't answer these questions, and hence need to ask those of you who has often dealt with sqs at a vet's office:
Is it always necessary to put a sq under for x-rays (teeth, bone and lung), blood work etc? Are there situations when one could simply hold the sq down (sort of, pin the sq down gently, but firmly enough to get an x-ray or draw blood for tests? (I'd imagine that for bone x-rays holding the sq down wouldn't work, but what about lung and teeth x-rays) ?

Hi astra, I wouldn’t. It depends on the age of the baby if they could be restrained for X-ray. I would never have blood drawn without them being under. I asked DrE how they draw blood on a squirrel. It is drawn from the vena cava near the heart. That would be awful to do that while awake. It would be so stressful it might cause death due to stress.

:thankyou Thank you for sharing that, P. I never even suspected that they drew blood from vena cava, for some reason thought it would be from a finger or something. But if it's that close to the heart, then, of course, shouldn't be done awake.
Just wonder about x-rays now. The reason for the questions is the risks associated with gassing sqs, not all vets seem to know how to do it correctly...
