Help Needed

My husband found 2 baby's their eyes weren't open yet. They are now about 14 weeks old. We were going to turn them loose again but I'm not sure if they can be since they have been in the house. The other day they were loose and playing. 1 fell to the floor from the tree limb we brought in. Now her back leg is hurt. She's staying in the log in their pen. She is eating but she won't come out. What do I do and is she OK?

Hi Lisaw. The baby might be injured so I would not release at this time. Let me ask a question. I know this will sound odd but what has the diet been. We need to determine if the calcium intake has been adequate. That will give us an idea if a break is likely. Squirrels have very specific dietary requirements to maintain bone health. Too many nuts in the diet can leave them vulnerable to bone fractures.

Hopefully it is a bruise and will heal without complications.
